Our Story
From Her Eyes
Out celebrating a friend's birthday in March of 2023, I walked into a dive bar called PJ's Lagerhouse expecting a typical weekend night out. As I made my way through the crowd, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a head sticking up above the rest and thought "oh. He's tall. I like tall. And has long hair. I like that too." After a few drinks and mingling with friends our group decided to go to the place next door. I went to the bar to find our friend Sam and let her know we were headed out, discovering she was chatting with 'tall man' and his friend. I said a quick hi before we quickly left to go to the next bar.
Cut to the next bar. After a while I spotted Caleb coming in and making his way over to our group. We started talking, and during the conversation he mentioned something about rugby. I said "oh, I played rugby a little in college." I watched his eyes light up as he said "really?!" Apparently those were the magic words, because it wasn't until then that he asked for my number. Later in the evening one of my other friends, who had seen us chatting, said "oh I know that guy. That's Leo's dad from the dog park. He's nice!" So now I knew he was tall, handsome, played rugby, had a dog, and was nice. All very good things.
He stuck with us as we went to one final bar, where we continued to chat and flirt a little. Our group decided to head home and before we left, he asked if he could have a kiss. I liked the confidence that took, but he also felt really genuine, so I said yes.
He texted me later that night after I got home and asked to go on a date. Like a gentleman, he planned everything and picked me up a few days later. We talked and laughed and got to know each other, and the rest just clicked into place. Since then we've done so much together: traveled to new countries, made new friends, merged households and dogs, and completed lots and lots of DIY projects.
From His Eyes
I have the benefit of going second here, gives me a chance to give some, we’ll call it clarity to the situation. But I’ll start from the beginning.
Nothing’s better than some local Detroit music, especially at PJ’s. My good buddy Zach and I went out to listen to some bands at the festival, have a couple beers and see some of Detroit. Not sure we’d even gotten our first drink before a friend of Allison’s stopped us and started chatting. Shortly after, Allison came over, caught my eye, and off they went to the next place. Sure I’d never see her and that bright red lipstick again, we didn’t wait long before I drug Zach to go chase after her. Luckily they didn’t go far— the next place was just next door.
But I’m not just some square ya see. We got to the bar and I played it cool, which, pretty easy for me. In real life, I didn’t come right over to their group. Walked right past without a care in then world until someone, maybe Katie from the dog park, called me over because she recognized me. Maybe it was my professional wingman, making sure I didn’t screw this up. Either way, thank you.
We then got to chatting and she is absolutely right about that next part. She’s a Rugger, by God! Asked for her number right away. A lesser man would be very embarrassed by how excited I got.
We spent the rest of the night together, hopped on to another bar or two, and yes, I did get that kiss. I was enamored and still am, and knew I wanted to see her again. Texted her the next day and maybe even that night to make sure of it.
Since then she’s taken me around the world. Quite forward in fact, I think she asked me to go to Bermuda after a month of talking. We’ve been building a life together: getting to know one another and new friends, travelling, completing (slowly but surely) DIY projects at the house, and going out to see more concerts (even if she never knows the bands).
And man, isn’t she beautiful.
